Mobile app for kids 4-7 that integrates gadgets into their lives in a fun way
Development of a gaming educational app for children for Android and iOS from idea to 25,000 installs
CHALLENGE
We conducted market and competitor research, created a character and developed systems for education, rewards, and entertainment for children in one app. We had to create a clear and bright design without text, as our users are too young to read. In addition to what users see in the app, we created an admin panel for content management and a content development system to quickly fill the app with new tasks. We also created a Telegram bot for parents.

OUR APPROACH
We started with market and competitor research to identify the key features to focus on that would set us apart from our competitors. We also conducted Custdev to understand the main pain points of our audience.
We assembled a creative team that worked together with psychologists to build the character.
We faced the fact of not being able to use text, as our target audience cannot read yet. This presented a lot of challenges for UX and game designers to make the app understandable for young children.
We took into account all the high requirements for children's applications from the App Store and Google Play regarding data storage and handling, analytics systems, and a careful approach to education.
In our development process, we use a product-oriented approach, testing each hypothesis before implementation, and pay special attention to thorough testing and minimizing crashes.
As a result, our app has passed all the checks and already has over 25,000 installs.

We conducted market and competitor research, Сustdev, and analyzed children's reactions to the character. We tested the MVP, gathered feedback and recommendations for product improvements. Every hypothesis goes through the product analysis stage.
To develop the concept, we assembled a creative team that worked together with psychologists to build the character's personality. We created a 3D model of the character with fun animations, as well as 3D rooms where the actions take place.
We had to create a clear and simple interface without text. All interfaces are designed so that a child aged 5 can manage them independently. We avoided difficult nesting of windows, and there are no 'dead ends' in the user's journey through the app.
The game designer had to turn educational tasks into engaging ones, making boring routines like brushing teeth or tidying up fun and interesting. At the same time, it was important to keep the child independent from the game and quick dopamine.
The app's development involved multiple teams: Unity integrated new mechanics, backend handled databases, API, and admin panel, 3D focused on animation and scenes, and QA conducted testing to identify vulnerabilities.
CLIENT INFORMATION
First Gadget is a useful mobile app for children aged 4 to 7. With First Gadget, children can learn new things without the risk of virtual addiction. We don't use mechanics that pull the child into the game world or keep them there.
CLIENT'S REVIEW
It was a really difficult task with a lot of uncertainty. The team did a huge job and created a complex, multifaceted app just as it was envisioned by mom-psychologists.
